Writer’s Choice
What I would like you to do is to take about ten full minutes to free write about the essays and stories that you have thus far read and which have piqued your interest. From this free-write, I would like you to create research questions. Think about asking historical questions regarding American Realism–what was going on in society at the time these works were written? After you are done with this, I would like you to take those questions and try to answer them by doing some research in the library databases and on the web. For sources on the web, be certain you are following CRAAP guidelines. Your topic can be about any essay(s) or short stor(ies), just some combination thereof so that you’re writing about two texts. Put two readings in conversation and emphasize any overlap in topics and/or themes. How do these readings work together to provide us a deeper understanding of the topic or theme? Formulate your thesis along these explanatory lines. Then, write a brief outline, cluster, or paragraph supporting your thesis. You must use at least two research sources in this support and provide an annotated bibliography for each.
So, your Paper Proposal will look like this:
