Vignette Summary
Billy is an 8-year-old who identifies as a white, cigender male. He met early developmental markers but once he went into kindergarten he was noticeably behind his peers in language development and reading. He also had difficulty paying attention and sitting still in class. Billy was quickly labeled the “trouble maker” and was ostracized from his peers. His parents seem involved and willing to help and participate but are unsure of how to help or what resources they have. His parents both reported attaining high school degrees and expressed difficulty in school. His mother said that she struggled after Billy’s birth and was diagnosed with postpartum depression. His parents are low middle socioeconomic status and live paycheck to paycheck. Both of Billy’s parents work and he is often watched by their neighbor.
