Transition from the Romantic Era into the Modernist Era

Instructions
The instructions are referenced to the topic of the essay which is the transition from the Romantic Era into the Modernist Era

In these response papers you will summarize the important historical and musical changes that were

unfolding during transitional periods outlined in your reading and listening assignments for those days. You
should organize your paper into two paragraphs: Paragraph 1: the historical transitions—what was going on in
the world that might have influenced musical sensibilities? Were there new social and political movements?
Scientific discoveries? Philosophical ideas? Religious wars? Racial or class subjugations? Who was in charge of
making music? Paragraph 2: the musical transitions—what musical changes were taking place? How did music
in the new era sound different than the music of the previous era? How were composers dealing with melody,
timbre, dynamics, harmony, rhythm, and form? How were audiences responding to changes? Were new
instruments being used? How did the historical changes intersect with the musical changes?
