Conflict Styles
1. Watch 12 angry men (1957) https://www.publicdomainmoviess.com/movie/309-12-angry-men
I have attached Killmann’s conflict model that is in our textbook. But you are free to research more online about Killmann’s conflict model.
To refer to which of the people you will be describing in the movie will not be by their names but by Jurors 1-12. I have attached the jurors pictures.
Major Paper 2 Directions
Once you have finished watching the film “12 Angry men,” you may begin your paper. In your paper, please accomplish the following:
Part 1
In your own words (supported by concepts and terms from our textbook) briefly describe Thomas Kilmann’s Conflict Model. What is it? What do you think makes it so special?
Part 2
For each of Kilmann’s 5 conflict styles, identify an example or 2 from the film “12 Angry Men” that demonstrates this conflict style in use. Explain how certain words or actions in the scene you selected demonstrate the conflict style you are writing about. For each conflict style, you may begin a new paragraph with that conflict style in bold. For example, you may start the “Avoidance” portion of your paper like this:
Avoidance: Next, I’ll be discussing the avoidance conflict style in the film…
Remember: Don’t just tell me some conflict style is being used in a scene, explain how a scene (or the actions of some character(s) in that scene) exemplify that conflict style. Be clear and specific regarding which characters you’re talking about (see the character chart in this week’s module for easy identification).
Part 3
Once you’ve finished writing about the film, I’d like you to provide an example of when in your life, each conflict style may be appropriate. You may think of hypothetical future situations you may find yourself in, or you may use past experiences from your real life. The point here is that you demonstrate to me that you understand no conflict style is necessarily better than any other, they’re each just differently suited.
