You should write a speech as a Merchant from the Ivory Coast in the first person.

Goal: To write a speech from the viewpoint of a character in the 1900s who is involved in Imperialism
Role: You are one of the following characters:
Indian government official working for the British
French settler in Algeria
Congolese miner working for King Leopold of Belgium

Indian farmer instructed by the British to grow cotton or opium instead of food crops
Merchant from the Ivory Coast
British missionary in South Africa
Tribal leader in Kenya
Audience: You will be presenting your speech to the rest of your class
Situation: You are living in the 1900s. Imperialism is a very popular policy among the Europeans. They are taking over other countries to become more powerful. You are either for or against or can see both viewpoints of Imperialism, depending on who your character is.
Product: Your speech should be a maximum of 400 words and a minimum of 250 words. It should discuss the ideas of imperialism benefitting or damaging your society. You are writing in 1900.
