Journal entries
You will be required to keep two sets of journals for this class consisting of eight entries each.
You are encouraged to be creative with these journal entries – they are not the same as class notes nor should they be the same as a formal paper. They are not meant to be a scrapbook of newspaper articles, nor are they a rewrite of the day’s events from the newspaper. The entries should be an account (analysis, reaction) of your experiences and thoughts about political, social, and economic life drawn from the readings. You should identify which reading or readings you are reflecting upon. As we discuss power and politics you may find that in your personal everyday experiences you will come across events or happenings that you may find has resonance for you in your own life. We can discuss it in class if you have any further questions about the assignment.
The grading of the journal will be based upon your ability to convey the depth and richness of your understanding of the readings. Entries should be dated, and they should average about a page each, typed, double-spaced, standard font.
