English Language Learning and Motivation

In 1998 Zoltan Dörnyei said “Motivation has been widely accepted by both teachers and researchers as one of the key factors that influence the rate and success of second/foreign language (L2) learning”. Draw on theoretical and empirical evidence to describe and critically evaluate the basis for this statement and discuss whether it remains valid twenty-two years later.
