What I have learned in my major and how that is used in my internship:
Interpersonal Communication-high use of customer service skills
Conflict communication-how to deal with student employees’ problems
Nonverbal communication-being able to read students body language. Also the use of e-mailing.

Position Description
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:
Assist the Manager of Program Development in all aspects of employment and training in NMU
Dining Services.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (included but not limited to)
General Duties
- Assist in the hiring of students for employment in all units of Dining Services. This is a multi-step process, requiring attention to detail and confidentiality must be maintained.
- Assist students in filling out pre-employment forms (tax forms, I-9’s, electronic deposit, etc.)
- Communicate one on one with possible future and newly hired individuals.
- Assist in creating schedules for units – working with Managers, AFSCME personnel or Student Personnel Supervisors.
- Frequently uses Ultratime, DS, Word, Excel, Banner and a variety of other software to complete job duties.
- Communicates with unit leaders and other Departments (Human Resources, Information Technology, Housing, etc.) on behalf of the Manager of Program Development.
- Work with unit leaders in determining hiring needs.
- Extensive telephone work is required. Telephone etiquette is therefore a must.
- Assist in the training and supervision of newly hired Dining Services Employment and
Training Assistant.
- Responsible for maintaining the Overtime Equalization reports for the Department.
- Responsible for maintaining the basic daily function of the Employment and Training of
NMU Dining Services in the absence of the Manager of Program Development.
- Assist Manager of Program Development on the production of the Student Employee
Newsletter – The Dish.
- Work in a safe manner being aware of personal safety, and the safety of others.
- Responsible for observing safety, health, and sanitation codes, regulations, or practices
required by the University or Governmental authority.
- Perform related functions as required.
