historical period
Write a 500-750 word essay on ONE of the topics listed below. The word count does not include formatting or the works cited page. *Incorporate two direct quotes from the literary selection to support your analysis and be sure to provide citations and a works cited listing with your essay.
**Follow MLA guidelines for citing sources**
Option 1: Write a critical analysis of one of the works from weeks 1 or 2. An overview of approaches can be found here, but many are quite straightforward. Psychological, gender, sociological, biographical, and historical are all approaches that may be used to analyze a literary work. *Do Not use Reader Response, since this requires you to write in the first person point of view, which is not permitted for any of the essay assignments.
Option 3: If there’s an aspect of the stories from these two weeks that particularly interests you, you may choose your own topic. Just make sure your essay focuses on the literature (and not the historical period or the author’s life, for example) and has a clear thesis statement that tells your reader in a nutshell what specific and debatable point you are making about the reading. *See the attached Powerpoint, “How to Write a Thesis Statement” for more help with this.
Please save your essay in the following format Wingerter_Essay1 and upload it as an MS Word attachment to the assignment link.
*substitute your own last name when saving your file.
Should you choose to use outside references, these must be scholarly, peer-reviewed sources obtained via the APUS library (select Advanced Search and check the Peer Reviewed box). Be careful that you don’t create a “cut and paste” paper of information from your various sources. Your ideas are to be new and freshly constructed. Also, take great care not to plagiarize.
