Early Modern Period vs. Medieval

Prompt 1: How is the early modern period different from the medieval one in
terms of how European intellectuals (that is, those who wrote our texts) approached
their religion, state, and society? You should focus in your response on two of the
following ideas:
a. Religion and/or God
b. Politics/the State
c. The place and role of the individual
d. The natural world
If you are answering Prompt 1 your answer should refer to at least one source from
the medieval period (The Crusades Reader, Dante, Aquinas, Chaucer, The Black
Death Reader, Hildegard of Bingen, Abelard, Anselm, and Ibn Tufayl) and at least
two sources from different disciplines (Martin Luther, Milton, Descartes, Martin
Guerre, and Locke) in the early modern era.
