World Religion 2
Having first read the two Hindu accounts of creation, which are taken from the Rig Veda, please answer the following questions:
1. Who is ‘the One’ in the first Vedic account? [Who Can Say How Creation Happened? That One] and why do you think the author might be reluctant to describe the motive of creation in the first place?
2. Do you sense humor, do you sense humility, or do you think the author truly was unaware of the motive?
3. Does this creation story seem to be more philosophical than the second one? Why do you think that might be the case?
4. The second Vedic account [Creation as Cosmic Sacrifice] comes from the same religious tradition [Hinduism] as the first one, yet it is quite different from the first and most likely was authored by someone else. What possible differences and similarities exist between the two stories? [Be specific here.]
5. Could the first account be seen as expressing more of what might be called a ‘monotheistic’ world-view? Or are both stories examples of ‘polytheistic’ world-views? [Please explain your answers in detail]
