Why peer reviewed articles are preferred in academic research

In your opinion, why do we tend to use peer-reviewed research articles as opposed to popular press articles (e.g., Huffington Post, New York Times) when doing academic research? Is this always advantageous? Why or Why not?

Responses should be written in the first person and include pertinent personal reflections and feelings. You must also incorporate class readings, other content like videos, and discussions. While you do not need to utilize every reading/video/discussion, you should demonstrate critical thinking about the overarching concepts from the week.
