Uses and Gratifications Theory
Instructions
Introduction to Communication Theory fulfills the information literacy requirement of the general
education curriculum at UAlbany. As such, your final paper will provide you with practice in
information literacy as well as using your knowledge of communication theory. Your final paper will
help you meet the following goals:
Develop your knowledge of communication theory beyond class discussion
Demonstrate how communication theory can be used in real life
Use information literacy skills to search, find, and evaluate relevant source materials
Improve your ability to synthesize and articulate your thoughts in writing
The objective for your paper is to show how a communication theory that we haven’t discussed in class
can help to explain or better understand something that happens in our everyday life or in the lives of
others around us. The paper will be based upon the theory that you signed up for in class. If you did not
sign-up for a theory, you will be assigned one. The theory you sign up for will be listed in your
Blackboard Grade Center. You will be penalized 10 points if you do not write your paper on the theory
that you selected
