Response 2 for Discussion Wk6, 2
. Respond to the initial posts of two of your classmates. Address the strengths and weaknesses that they discussed. Offer an element of feedback with reasoning that supports their post and another element of feedback that offers additional insight.
Adeline Post
Identify at least two strengths and two weaknesses.
According to research, 30% of business results come from the climate a leader creates, and up to 70% of organizational climate is driven by the leader’s competencies (Lash, 2017). Based on this statement and this week’s activity, and as a future leader, I reflected on my strengths and weaknesses to exhibit greatness in my workplace.
Strengths: I am persistent and with high positive work ethic. I take responsibility for the things that I do, and I do not do. I do not give up and always find ways to solve a problem and not blame any circumstances.
Weaknesses: Communications and management skills. I find it challenging for me to communicate and manage people, for I am overthinking how my feedbacks will be taken or if they will get offended. Due to my accent and culture, communications sometimes being misunderstood.
Professional development plan:
Short-Term:
My short-term plan is to read more and listen more to podcasts. There are various leadership podcast resources on YouTube and another free website available. Typically, these resources and training do not cost anything. Also, I will attend development training like the Dale Carnegie. Dale Carnegie Training is a franchise-based organization that teaches communication skills for businesses and organizations. Its programs include sales, leadership, presentation, management, and speech-related topics. Dale Carnegie Training grew from the teachings and educational work of Dale Carnegie, who taught personal development and public speaking skills in New York in the early 1900s. Carnegie’s book How to Win Friends and Influence People, first published in 1937, remains a highly popular self-help and business skills development resource (Sergy, 2017). I will also log my self-development activities and program for the coming next six months.
Long-Term:
I want to improve my vocabulary, articulation, and public speaking skills. I will join group organizations like Toastmaster to enhance my personal development and communication skills. Toastmasters International is a not-for-profit organization that offers members the opportunity to practice and receive feedback on their speaking skills. With over 15,000 clubs in 135 countries, Toastmasters is one of the foremost public speaking organizations worldwide (Sergy, 2017). At the end of this year, I am leaning towards two to three organization involvements. The Toastmaster cost is minimal, for instance, April or October: $16.00 + $18.00 + club dues; then, once you are signed up, dues of $18.00 are assessed every six months, in September and March (Toastmasters, n.d.).
