American citizens over the age of 18 have a constitutionally-protected right to vote (barring some concerns over felony status or mental capacity). Using the following questions as a guide or prompt, explain what the right/responsibility to vote means to you:

1. Would you have always had the right to vote? What provisions in Texas or at the federal level might have precluded you from voting? What amendments or laws now protect your right to vote? Are there any court cases related to voting rights?

2. Why is the right to vote protected in our country? Why is this important?

3. Do you have a responsibility to vote? Why or why not?

4. If you choose to not vote – what keeps you from voting? Is this a right, as well?

This is about you relating the reading/information to your own experiences. Feel free to write on the rights/responsibilities of voting in some other way.
