From Groen and Polivka’s (2010) article you can see how the fabric of the community may change as a result of a natural disaster. For example, after Superstorm Sandy, some communities’ profiles began to change and lose its original shape and cohesiveness. Some of the diverse vulnerable populations within these communities were forced to relocate to another area.
In your discussion board post describe ways that disasters can impact community profile/makeup, the community’s socioeconomic status, and the community’s future resiliency. Include specific ways that disasters can create or reinforce inequalities. Use disaster examples to support your statements. Be sure to cite the module readings, though you may also draw on other sources.
