PERSUASIVE ESSAY about HEALTH from a DEMOCRATIC STANDPOINT POV
What is the assignment? You will write a persuasive essay from the point of view of the (Left group, Democratic). You will choose the subject HEALTHCARE and research this position using legitimate news sources.
Your paper must contain the following headings:
Introduction: Introduce which group you are in (LEFT GROUP) and describe what their positions on HEALTH CARE are based on the political party and some of the politicians who fall into this category. For example: “I am in the left-wing group and we hold the following positions on HEALTHCARE….”
Main Position: This section will discuss only one of the following position HEALTH CARE. This section is where you will choose your main topic and you will write a persuasive essay to convince your reader that your position (THE LEFT-WING GROUP) is the correct one based on facts, evidence, data and research using the Pierce College library.
History of your position: Include a very brief history of your position. If you are writing about immigration, you can discuss some of the previous immigration laws in our nation, the same with health care, or gay rights or abortion. Briefly go into the history and tie it to the current position of your group.
Opposing Position: Who opposes your position? If you are in the left group, then the right and probably the moderates likely oppose your position. If you are a moderate then the left or right will argue that your position is too extreme. Why does your opponent hold this position? Really delve into this with some research and try to understand the opposing viewpoint. You will explain in a respectful manner why they hold this opposing position but why your position is the correct one using data, evidence and research.
Fake v. Real News: You will include a few paragraphs on how to tell real from fake news and how you are sure that you have chosen legitimate news sources. Even if you represent a group that supports conspiracy theories, I want you to tell me if their information was gathered from legitimate sources or not and how you can tell.
Summary: Do not add any new information. Just summarize what you have already told us about this issue and reiterate your position.
Bibliography. Include a well-sourced and varied Bibliography using any of the citation methods you would like. Follow the template on the library website (see the Robb Library Page).
Use legitimate sources. You will have 10 to 20 legitimate sources at a minimum.
You may include information you’ve learned from class, interviews, documentaries, court documents, research, data, statistics, our textbook and various legitimate resources from the Pierce College Library website and the Library’s “Prof. Robb” page.
The library has set up a website for my students to help you research your bill. Go to the piercecollege.edu website, click on Library, Subject Guides, Political Science and top right – Professor Robb and there’s a link on Canvas or just click the link in Canvas.
If you use an internet source you must include the cite and the date retrieved. Only use legitimate internet sources. Do not use Wikipedia. Do not use “google” as a source, but you can use google to find sources.
