main ideas of each. How are these theories the same? How are they different?

2. Next, decide which hypothesis you agree with as being the most likely PRIMARY cause of
obesity. While there are likely many factors that contribute to the disease, select one of
the above hypotheses and write a brief argument as to why you believe it is correct. Be
sure to support your information with facts from the lectures I provided, the seminar by
Gary Taubes, or other credible sources. If you cite other sources, be sure to include a
reference in your write up.

3. Reflect on these two hypotheses a little deeper. Since the conventional wisdom is
believed to be true by most healthcare professionals, what kind of advice will these
people give to their patients who are suffering from obesity? If the alternative wisdom
turned out to be true, how would this change the advice that healthcare professionals
might give to their patients?

4. What kind of personal experiences do you have with overweight or obesity? Have you or
someone you know ever tried to lose weight based on the premise of the conventional
wisdom? What about the alternative hypothesis? What were your, or the other
person’s, experiences like trying to lose weight in different ways?

I recommend typing up your response in a word document and then copy/pasting it onto the
discussion board. Please be sure to keep the numbering format outlined above so that your
posts can be graded easily. You must write in complete sentences and your post should contain
a minimum of 500 words. You also need to reply to 2 of your classmates’ posts (5pts each x 2 =
10 points total). These posts should be of high quality, contribute substantially to the
discussion, and consist of at least 100 words. You must reply to one person who chose to argue
for the same hypothesis as you and someone else who chose the other hypothesis.
