Moral panic in the UK during the global outbreak of coronavirus
2000 words Research proposal
rename the title if needed (it’s just a topic)
Section should contain: •Title • Abstract • Introduction • Literature Review • Aim of the research
• Methodology (research approach/ study design/ time frame and location [need to be IN THE UK]/ Sampling Procedure/ data collection/ data analysis) • Ethical consideration
This assignment asks you to write an outline of an imaginary research project. You will each choose your own topic and research question. The purpose of the exercise is to allow you to show that you have understood the material and that you can apply your new knowledge of the issues of design and method to a practical problem. More specifically, you should write a ‘research proposal’ of no more than 2000 words (not including the reference list), in which you briefly describe:
• the general topic area you have chosen and why this is sociologically interesting
or relevant
• one or more research questions (at least one of these should be of the explanatory
type – i.e. a causal question)
• the research design you intend to use and how it will enable you to answer your
research questions
• a critical reflection on your design, justifying your choices and stating its potential
weaknesses
• You should draw on the material presented in lectures, classes, practicals and
reading list to support your proposal. You should also find some literature on the
topic you choose. The more you show evidence of reading beyond what is in the
module outline, the more chance you have of obtaining a higher mark, although
simply including more references by no means guarantees a higher mark. Your
proposal must contain a reference list and cite references correctly, using the
Harvard style (see your degree handbook if you are unclear about what this
means). You are encouraged to use section headings, bullet points and whatever
else makes the proposal easier to read. This is not an ‘essay’ as such.
