“Metaphors
There are several choices for this essay. You can write on “Metaphors”. If you choose this poem, be sure to explain what a metaphor is and why this poem uses that technique so well. You could do a little research on Sylvia Plath and discover what’s ‘behind’ some of her thoughts. You could choose to write on “Richard Cory”. This poem talks to the heart of one of my theories …. the belief that you never know what another person is experiencing. You can also write on Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken”. If you choose to write on that poem, be careful not to blindly accept what you have probably heard at numerous graduations. I don’t believe that he is only saying to ‘be your own person’ and travel your own road. I think there’s more to it than that. In any case, you will need to ‘teach’ me the poem — it could mean explicating it line by line or you may choose to group several lines together. This essay should be at least two full pages, double spaced, Times New Roman, size 12 font.
