• Calculate the course, latitude and speed error of a gyrocompass
• Analyse the interface of the ship’s gyrocompass with other navigational
equipment
1) For either the Sperry or Anchutz Marine Gyro:
a) Sketch a diagram of your chosen compass, indicating all the major parts in its
assembly. (14)
b) Identify 3 items of bridge equipment that interfaces with the Gyro (6)
c) Explain, with the aid of sketches, the method of achieving gravity control and
damping. (40)
2) Explain the cause and magnitude of the error due to latitude, course and
speed on the ships gyro compass. Your answer should include an example
demonstrating an application of the Delta Tables.
