HUM250 Reflection Paper 1
1) Read the following lectures: “Mesopotamia Overview”, “Pre-History”, “The Humanities”, and “Sumer.”
(2) Watch the video on Ancient Sumeria.
(3) Read the Introduction to Gilgamesh Lecture.
(5) Read the complete epic of Gilgamesh from the following online source:

Please be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to read the full text. Links to each of the tablets (chapters) are found at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, you may read any edition of the poem that you prefer.
(6) Consider listening to the provided audio of Gilgamesh. This might help with your reading of the poem.
(7) Read the Babylonia Lecture.
(8) Read “Code of Hammurabi,” pp. 7-10 in Sources of the Western Tradition.

Question to answer:
After reading Gilgamesh, what aspects of Sumerian society do you think that it is celebrating? How are they represented in the poem, and how do you think that they contribute to the text’s overall meaning? Be sure to follow the guidelines for the reflections that I have provided, and be absolutely sure to support your answers with examples from the poem itself.
This epic poem tells us much about Ancient Mesopotamian life, and you will be invited to consider how these lessons hold relevance for us today.
