Think of this essay as a way to explain your conception of the texts. Make sure your essay has a “So What?”—why is your thesis important? Why is it significant to our understanding of the human condition?

Although Gilgamesh is one of the oldest know literary texts, it deals with many of the same issues that modern day humans experience. What does it mean to live in society? How does one get education? Why do we seek fame? How do we deal with our fears? You must express your own interpretation/analysis of what you have read; therefore, this diagnostic essay takes critical thinking.

Below are 4 writing prompts. Choose one of these prompts to compose your Essay. Make sure you incorporate quotations from the texts to support your ideas.

1)In what ways does Gilgamesh compare to your research topic. Do yo find any similarities or major differences between your topic of study and this text?
2) What does the story of Enkidu’s education by the Harlot tell us about Mesopotamian views of culture and civilization? What do you think Enkidu represents? What do you think the harlot represents?
3)How is Enkidu a problem for the trapper like or unlike Gilgamesh is a problem for the citizens of Uruk? How are the solutions of the citizens and the trapper like or unlike?
4)What do you think are Gilgamesh’s reasons for going to the cedar forest? Do you think they are good ones? What do you think Humbaba represents and Why is he not shown mercy?
The Constraints of the assignment

This Essay Must:

Be 3 ½ – 4 pages in length. I do not mean 2 ½ – 3 pages. I mean 3 ½ -4 pages in length.

Be double spaced, use 12 point font (Times New Roman, Calibri, or Arial) and conform to MLA format. Use the Purdue Owl website (Links to an external site.) if you do not have a MLA reference text.

In addition to 3 ½ – 4 page length, the paper needs a Works Cited

Have 2 outside sources: peer reviewed article/essay or books. Use Delta College Library’s Database. you may use credible websites. You may use the sources you have been researching.

Not use the subjective pronoun “you”
