Electoral systems
short assignments must be 3-4 double-spaced pages and submitted as a MS Word document or PDF through the drop box on D2L on the due dates below with Times New Roman 12-point font, one-inch margins, and APA or MLA citation. Header info and a works cited page are not included in the page count.
Students will assess which electoral systems best promote stable democracies utilizing articles found in the Current Debates text on Pgs. 100-105 and 105-108. In addition to citing and assessing material from these articles, students may also cite news and other sources relevant to the essay topic. The essay should address the following: (1) Reviewing the electoral systems we discussed this semester, which would you recommend for a country transiting to democracy? (2) How do governmental systems (Presidential/Parliamentary/Semi-Presidential) impact electoral system choice? This assignment is not a recommendation for a single actual country, but rather a plan applicable in any country undergoing a regime transition.
