Submit Persuasion Speech Checklist.html, PowerPoint, presentation link of a 7 to 8-minute a persuasion speech. It must be a question of policy (get the audience to do something, not argue an issue). You must persuade us to do something. See requirements below for assignment.
NOTE: It must be a question of policy. The goal of this speech is to change, to some degree, the thought or action of your audience. You must use Monroe’s Motivated Sequence because you must clearly define and analyze the problem, establish a detailed solution to the problem that can be implemented by the audience, and provide both positive benefits and negative drawbacks to your solution. Therefore, you must choose the action such as lose weight, drink water, recycle, etc.…DO NOT DEBATE AN ISSUE! If you do not a question of action (policy), you will receive a ZERO for the entire assignment.
2. Can be any topic that moves us to action; however it must be ethically sound. Must be restricted and direct enough to provide clear call to action. Attached is a list of possible topics to fit the requirements. Prohibited topics: abortion, legalization of any drug/narcotics, stop smoking, wearing seat belts, donating blood to Red Cross, recycling, signing your donor card, buying a particular product, stop drinking and driving, or safe sex.
3. Must use three (3) transitions. Any other connectives (internal previews, internal summaries, etc.) will not be counted.
4.You will need to have at least 4 different credible sources. Include your sources on your speech checklist. They only count if you say them in your speech. THE INTERNET IS NOT A SOURCE! In other words, try to use online journals, virtual libraries, etc. Wikipedia is not a source….do not use it.
– For example, “Dr. Jim Flynn (1), the foremost expert in student apathy and education (2), states, “Apathy is a misguided and often infectious attitude of students to others that counteracts of our efforts as faculty (3).”
5. Use of effective Visual Aid that enhances one aspect of your speech for your audience. Video clips of any kind are prohibited. You must use a PowerPoint Presentation as a separate attachment. You should only have 3 to 5 slides with short bullet points and/or pictures.
6. Must be extemporaneous style speech presentation. You should use a speaking outlines or note cards only. Do not use your manuscripts.
7. Delivery must be fluent and polished. Presentation needs to be grammatically correct and free from visual distractions and verbal pauses. Use vocal variety to add interest to your speech. Must exhibit very strong interaction with the audience and use of effective eye contact.
8. Adheres to time limit. There will be a 7 to 8– point deduction for every 30 seconds over or under allotted time. You will not be deducted if your time is between 6 ½ and 8 ½ minutes. I will stop the video at 9 minutes.
You should three elements to your submission:
1. You will need to submit the speech checklist. NO MANUSCRIPTS.
2. PowerPoint presentation.
3. Presentation designation and/or link. Speech Presentation is worth 100 points. NOTE: Follow the Online Speech Presentation Information below. Add the Youtube link to your submission in the comment box. Do not email the video. It must be on Youtube, do not submit a video file. If it is marked as private, you will receive a zero for that portion of the assignment.
