DNP Rationale
1. In this paper you will explain why, as Master’s prepared nurse, you have chosen to pursue a DNP degree. This is a question that you will be asked many times, and it is important that you are able to present a good rationale for your choice.
2. Correct APA 7th edition style is very important in this paper.
Pay close attention to the statement: “Use the 3rd person instead of the 1st or 2nd person”. This means that the paper is written from an external viewpoint, rather than a personal viewpoint.
Instead of “In my present position I have observed…” you would state “Professors in nursing programs frequently observe…”
3. Make sure you address all of these items:
Background/History of DNP degree
State of DNP in 2020
Value of DNP degree for a nurse in your present position/career status (Pay close attention to this statement in the: “Use the 3rd person instead of the 1st or 2nd person”).
