Disaster Emergency Management
Scenario: “You are the new emergency manager for a county government. After reviewing existing plans, after action reports, and training records, your first task is to develop and present a written description of a hurricane and flooding problem and how you would solve it to enhance resiliency and provide for continuity.” To satisfy this requirement, the candidate must submit a written narrative response to the above problem scenario, not a bullet listing, demonstrating knowledge and abilities in disaster/emergency management and written communication skills and formatting the response into six sections:
Identify the problem to be solved
Identify the objective to be achieved
Describe the necessary actions to be taken in order to achieve the objective and the problem solution
Describe the intended outcome (behavioral, technical, equipment and/or supplies, financial, etc.) as a result of necessary actions
Describe the human resources utilized in the process; and
Describe the material and financial resources utilized in the process
In order to demonstrate knowledge and abilities in disaster/emergency management and written communication skills you will need to:
Demonstrate ability to develop a solution for the stated problem
Demonstrate knowledge of the prevention phase of disaster/emergency management and activities
Demonstrate knowledge of the mitigation phase of disaster/emergency management and activities
Demonstrate knowledge of the preparedness phase of disaster/emergency management and activity
