Counseling Assessment Project
Instructions
In this project you will construct and describe an appropriate assessment process. This project has four sections to it:
1. description of client, population of interest or clinical issue:
The clients are high school athletes struggling with depression
2. literature review of issues relevant to your specific assessment process
3. discussion of at least one test instrument that you would utilize
(One test instrument is the Kutcher Adolescent Depression Scale (KADS)
4. a summary
For the first section you will select the following as the focus which your assessment process will serve:
(HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ATHLETES WITH DEPRESSION)
Please thoroughly read Chapter 8 in your textbook:
(Principles and Applications or Assessment in Counseling, Initial Assessment in Counseling).
There is an expectation of at least six graduate level resources and the textbook to be used for the entire paper. Provide a description of your selection.
Provide a literature review of important issues relevant to your specific assessment process. In this Literature Review: discuss your method of effectively preparing for and conducting the initial assessment meeting; discuss your procedures for identifying trauma and abuse and for reporting abuse; discuss procedures for assessing risk of aggression or danger to others, self-inflicted harm, or suicide; discuss ethical and culturally.
In the third section you’ll discuss in detail at least one test instrument that you would utilize.

• Discuss the reliability and validity of the assessment.
• Why did you choose that assessment?
•How will the client and how will the counselor benefit from utilizing this instrument?
• Is there any other information that we as counselors should know regarding this instrument? (For example: Is there a cost associated to the client or the counselor? How long does the assessment take to complete? Etc.)
• Discuss any ethical considerations when using that test instrument with diverse populations or individuals with disabilities.
• Include referenced material.
