Conspiracy
The Research Paper is a piece of academic work. A research paper analyses a perspective or argues a point. Regardless of the type of research paper you are writing, your finished research paper should present your own thinking backed up by others’ ideas and information. We don’t expect you to produce something completely original, but instead, you should show some understanding of key issues, concepts and theories. There should be some evidence of thought and insight, as well as critical analysis and evaluation, and a demonstration that you have been able to research a topic within your selected field and portray your findings properly. Simple narrative is, obviously, not sufficient, and will result in a low mark. A research paper is an expanded essay that presents your own interpretation or evaluation or argument. When you write an essay, you use everything that you personally know and have thought about a subject. When you write a research paper you build upon what you know about the subject and make a deliberate attempt to find out what experts know.
A research paper is not a list of quotes. The focus of your paper is your point of view, your commentary. Direct quotations, facts, and statistics may be woven throughout your paper, but they should support your position. Your commentary should do more than simply introduce or link quotations.
shouldn’t refer to yourself as “we” unless you are describing some kind of group work. Do not refer to yourself as “the author”, it is pompous and may be confusing.
