Community Organizations
From the previous readings, it is evident that community-based organizations can be beneficial to the community during disasters. Examples of this effort include faith-based institutions in Houston, Texas providing meals and shelter during Hurricane Katrina. However, there were also many missed opportunities in Katrina.
In your discussion post (250-400 words), suggest how faith/interfaith and community-based organizations could have been better leveraged in the response to Hurricane Katrina. What specific role could organizations have played? How would you have pulled them in? What recommendations do you draw from case studies of the role of these organizations in disaster response? Cite evidence from your module readings wherever possible
