Case Study

Learning Objectives: Natural disasters are becoming increasingly common in today’s world. Harvey is a current example. Among other entities, communities must be prepared because the impacts disrupt the lives of people and the functioning of businesses, suppliers, customers, and the infrastructure. Disasters are crises in the extreme. While the crisis management literature provides a useful foundation for planning for such threats, it does not adequately address board-based threats brought about by disasters. The case presents details about government and community leaders prepare for and respond to crises. Business leader need to know what governments can and cannot in a disaster. Students will learn about the nonbusiness-related BC practices.

Questions:
Who are the key leaders from government perspective?
What are the proper planning mechanisms?
How do companies maintain connections and communications with government agencies?
What are the ethical aspects?

Each student is expected to prepare a written paper between 250 and 300 words pertaining to his or her assessment of the case.
