ANALYZING THE WORK OF CHRIS BURDEN

I recommend one page or less of bio and then to cover specific artworks. You are welcome to go very in-depth on a single work or more likely cover 3/4 pieces or a series. Please give an opinion on why you chose this artist, what drew you to them. What makes them relevant today? Did their style get co-opted by fashion or graphic design? If there are works that you don’t like then you can include that just explain why and have an argument.

All of the artists on the list have plenty of information about them online, this will largely be online research. I suggest looking up their gallery as most have one. Google their name and “gallery”. Look up articles about their work from major arts publications like Frieze, Artforum, Hyperallergic, New York Times, or LA Times. Art research sites such as The Art Story, Khan Academy are very helpful for getting a quick sense of their work. Also look at their exhibitions by googling their name and “exhibition”. Most of these artists have had major museum exhibitions and the press release and materials around the exhibition are very helpful. Please have at least three sources from these examples to draw from and note them in your citations.
