East-West Schism
This paper can be argumentative, expository, or of a compare/contrast nature. The thesis you use will vary by the different types. Ideally, you will work to produce an argumentative paper, but it is also possible to have this be a deeper exploration of the primary theories of the given philosopher(s). You will want to keep in mind the many philosophy papers you have read and work to model that style of writing. Below are a few tips to keep in mind as you craft the paper.
Regardless the type of paper, the thesis should make a statement about a main idea you will establish as true. Note, for argumentative and expository papers, the “thesis paragraph” lets the reader know what will be covered and in what order. See https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/general_writing/the_writing_process/thesis_statement_tips.html
It is a statement, not a question, and must appear in the first or second paragraph, first is preferable.
You will also want a sentence or two providing a brief outline of the points to be covered and in what order they will be covered.
