how big McD is in Europe

Hello. First draft received a “C”. I got feedback so please update accordingly.

Here’s my feedback:

– in the opening you mention how big McD is in Europe and then mention how many outlets they have in the US (‘dominates 45% of the US…”). Then mention the UK. Are you talking about just the UK? If so, you need to redo the opening so it’s clear and consistent. Also, if there are 114 outlets and 20,000 employees, that’s 175 employees per restaurant. That has to be inaccurate. You need to clean up the opening since it has inconsistencies and inaccuracies.

– Beyond that, the topic of minimum wage/compensation is a good one. In the first two pages, you should be more focused re the issue. Is it simply an issue of the compensation for crew members in fast food? Or is it also a union issue? or something about the McD culture and how it pays? Or an overall economic issue in that low skilled employees get paid very little and can’t get by? What is the primary issue you are trying to solve?

– Re your recommendations, you need to expand on them. It’s not enough to just say we should pay them more? How many employees are in each outlet? Approx how much would the labor costs increase? About how much would need to be saved to offset that? Also, what have other companies done? e.g. other fast food chains have raised the minimum wage. How do they make that work?

– Also, re the recommendation of a union, you should spend more time on the consequences of that. Having your employees become unionized would be a HUGE issue for McD. Have other companies done that? If so, what has been the outcome? Is there another alternative vs just getting a union.

Summary – you need to expand on and think more about the issues. I want to know that you’ve thoroughly analyzed and thought about the issues and your recommendations. Spend time looking at what other companies have done, what options exist, and what is realistic?

BTW – check your grammar and sentences. Top of page two you say “issue of employee remuneration at McDonald’s and other fast-food organizations has been one of the most contemporary issues in the past decade”. Using ‘contemporary’ doesn’t make sense so you need to revise that sentence.

At this point the paper is a C so please do some more work on it and I”m sure you’ll improve.

In terms of relating to textbook, I want you to relate to common HR principles and terms within the discipline. I can edit the paper to fit to the textbook I have. For example I would recommend going after compensation issues or retention of high performers. Make sure you only select ONE organization and choose an issue within it like the compensation or retention of high performers.
