“The Coquette,” by Hannah Webster Foster

Instructions
I would like the paper to be about the novel “The Coquette,” by Hannah Webster Foster. It is written as a series of letters, and although it explores serious ideas, such as the way women were expected to behave, it is written in a way that can be compared to “reality tv.” I would like the essay to discuss the comparison of “The Coquette” and its themes and audience to that of today’s media. This should look into how the expectations of women have changed.

This is generally what I would like the subject of the essay to be about, but you are free to look at the syllabus and make decisions based on your own judgement.
