Latin America – Indigenous identity
Analyze the film Roma (Alfonso Cuaron) by paying close attention to the type of representation the director produces of the indigenous peoples of Mexico in the twentieth century, in order to compare it to that of Even the rain (Iciar Bollain). Elaborate on the specific categories that seem to define indigenous identity within Latin America states (Mexico, Bolivia, as portrayed by the films), and identity and discuss to what extent the films also open up space to produce a different account of the indigenous people. Illustrate your argument.
