Surveillance
create an individual presentation summarising the findings of your group report, approximately 7mins in length.
you can use PowerPoint, Prezi or any other program to help present your findings, but if you are submitting the assignment on line you must provide audio.
However as this is a presentation try to make it interesting. You need to think about how to engage the audience, as you will be awarded marks for how well you communicate the information. If you wish to enhance your presentation with a short video (max 3-4mins) or some other creative idea, feel free to as long as it is relevant. Nevertheless if you insert a video this is not included in the 7 mines.
do not assume the audience, whether it is just myself or your fellow class members, know what the topic is all about, so make sure you introduce the problem/topic clearly.
also make sure it is a summary of the information, not a report of what your group did. For example do not start your talk with, “Our group examined the….”
One way to think of this presentation is if you have compiled the report with your work colleagues and need to present it at a conference.
Your group report is the source of information for your presentation.
You just need to draw out the important points. This will provide the relevant information for the ‘Research & Argument’ section of the marking guide.
Make sure you clearly introduce the topic and provide a distinct conclusion.
Do not overload your PPT slides (the audience wants to listen not read) – most of the information should be provided via audio. As a rule, no more than six lines with no more than 5-7 words per line.
Make sure you sound interesting, especially if you are submitting this assignment on line. – Please refer to the ‘Oral Presentation’ section on the marking guide.
Ensure your presentation is engaging, so as I have said before, find a short video or use some images. If you do use a relevant video make sure that it is brief, and it will be not included in the time limit.
No need to provide in text references, just provide only the references that are relevant to the information that you extract from your report. Just list them on the last slide, and make sure they are formatted correctly.
Also remember that this is only a 5-7min presentation so try to stay within this time.
For those who are presenting on campus, in order to control the nerves, be very organised and rehearse it a couple of times at least
I do realise that public speaking is not your favourite thing to do, but in the future you may be required to present information to a group, so this assignment is helping develop these skills.
