Before completing this week’s portfolio assignment, read Chapter 14 in your textbook, Early Childhood Special Education and then go to the IRIS Center Online and complete the module, Early Childhood Environments: Designing Effective Classrooms at https://iris.peabody.vanderbilt.edu/module/env/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. The module will take around 1 hour to complete. Work your way through the module and end on the Wrap Up page (you do not need to go to the Assessment page). Then respond to the following prompts in your portfolio assignment:

– Describe the reasons why well-designed classrooms are important for young children

– Identify and discuss the key aspects of each of the 3 components of a well-designed early childhood environment

– Describe three strategies that teachers can use to make the physical environment more accessible to children with disabilities

COURSE OUTCOME 2: Describe characteristics of, and classroom accommodations for the Disability Categories defined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
