02 what are the primary objectives of studies of palaeolithic technology?
I wrote this question before, you could use this one as one of the theme and expand it. Here is the essay I wrote
The Paleolithic Age, also known as the Paleolithic Age, is an ancient traditional period characterized by human technology development. It was during this period that we observed the development and use of stone tools. Besides, tools include; By tapping on a pebble tool made from two rocks, using a hand adz made of stone to generate a curved blade and a stone cutter knife. Remarkably, the Paleolithic period also saw the rise of small-scale sculpture manufacturing. Some human-made sculptures include carved stone statues, clay statues of animals, and ivory sculptures.
The image provided below displays some of the ancient woodworking tools. Numbers 1 and 2 represent adze handles made of pine and adze blade made of amphibole schist. 3 and 4 are boxwood wedges.
Ancient tools were designed to enhance their functions or to achieve different purposes. It is important to acknowledge that understanding the ecological and social conditions at the time of the emergence of handled tools will help us understand human adaptive behaviour about social and economic changes in prehistoric times. Shott(2014) studied human adaptation to harsh climatic conditions during the Pleistocene in northern China. He found an emerging prototype of a stone chipped by a carpenter with a handle. Also known as “Adze,” it was the standard grindstone woodworking tool of the Neolithic Age. It’s worth noting that many organic materials, such as the wood used to make shafts, decayed long before stone tools were found at archaeological sites. Due to corrosion factors, peeling tools leave very few marks; Thus, few peeling tools have been discovered to date. Some of the extant handled tools include tar-handled stone tools found under river gravel and clay at Middle Pleistocene sites in Italy.
Paleolithic studies are vital because they help people understand paleo human biology. Also, the form of artifacts found contributes to the understanding of clear and concise ecological functions. For example, some Stone Age tools were designed to catch a large game, while others were designed to catch small game. Also, the distribution of artifacts in different regions creates a paleontological data source. Moreover, the distribution of artifacts on different regional scales helps us understand Stone Age toolmakers’ geographic range. The study of paleoanthropology has attracted wide attention in China, which has led to the debate about two kinds of evolution. The first theory traces human origins “beyond Africa,” while the other defines “multiregional evolution.”The evidence found in China has brought new ideas to the theory that different human fossils such as Homo erectus and Homo sapiens were distributed in different countries (Gao et al., 2010). China was once thought to be the regional center for modern humans’ origin, providing an excellent case study for the theory of “multiregional evolution.”
In conclusion, it is crucial to acknowledge that human beings’ origin and evolution is a complex subject requiring further study. This is because many artifacts of different ages have been found worldwide, making it difficult to trace human origins. However, these studies contribute to our understanding of the socio-economic life of ancient humans. Thus, we can define the development of Paleolithic technology.
