Empirical

Paper details

Methods Section Questions (Part B): Find your answers using the METHOD section only

6) Identify the main steps of study that the participants have to go through. (You can skip recruitment, consent, and debriefing.) (“Step One……” “Step Two…..” etc.) Try to keep the description to no longer than 6 steps. If the procedure is long, that means you will need to think about what the MAIN parts of the procedure are.

Results Section Questions: Find your answers using the RESULTS section only

7A) What was the original hypothesis(es) of the study? (See Introduction for a reminder)

7B) What statistical analysis (or analyses, if multiple hypotheses) in the Results section seems to answer the hypothesis(es)? (Where did you find this information? List the page, paragraph and line number)

7C) What was stated about the hypothesis(es) in the Discussion; did the authors find support for the hypothesis? (Where did you find this information? List the page, paragraph and line number)

DISCUSSION Section Questions: Find your answers using the DISCUSSION section only

8A) Name one limitation or study weakness mentioned by the authors (in the Discussion); what was a problem in how they conducted the study? (e.g. “This study neglected to measure variable X.”)

8B) What could a future study do to address this weakness? Briefly describe what researchers would do differently, giving some details about a possible procedure. (e.g. “To measure variable X researchers could observe participants when they…” Don’s just say “variable X should be measured” – suggest HOW to measure it!)
