In this discussion, you will hone your negotiation abilities by analyzing ways to resolve challenges in public health. More specifically, you will explore the method of principled negotiation and how it may be used by health organizations to achieve successful outcomes.
For your main post, please address the following:
Part 1—Summary of Community Coalition (~70 words): Identify an established community coalition centered around an environmental health issue (for example, the use of pesticides). Summarize the coalition’s mission and goals. Provide an example of a collaborative effort supported by this coalition.
Part 2—Possible New Partnerships (~70 words): Explore this coalition’s community for another organizational stakeholder who may serve as a new partnership for future endeavors. Summarize this potential partner’s organizational mission and goals.
Part 3—Principled Negotiation Preparation (~160 words): Please address the following:
Collaboration Opportunity: Describe the public health issue which may initiate this new partnership within the coalition. What environmental health issue would be important to both the coalition and the potential partner?
Interests: Considering this public health issue, what would be the coalition’s main interests in forming a collaborative partnership? How about the interests of partnering organizations? What other interests may warrant consideration?
Negotiation Options: Respond to the following questions:
What would be the ideal negotiation options for the coalition?
What would be the ideal negotiation options for the partnering organization?
What is the best alternative if an agreement cannot be made (BATNA) for the coalition?
What is the BATNA for the partnering organization?
Negotiation Approaches: Imagine that you are tasked with mediating a negotiation meeting between the coalition and partnering organization. How would you approach this negotiation meeting? How would you resolve possible conflicts?
