Yellow Fever
PRESENTATION
Each of you will deliver a short presentation of the substance of your paper, with a focus on convincing your peers of why research on your disease should be funded. The presentation will be less than seven minutes and at least four minutes. Power point presentations are required with narration. You will be graded primarily on content, length in time, attractiveness/formatting, appropriateness, narration, strength of the argument, and organization. Be careful that style does not overwhelm content. All information in your presentation must also be presented in your paper, but all the information in the paper should not be in the presentation. Concentrate on making your argument to the class.
PRESENTATION INSTRUCTIONS
Presentations must be in Microsoft, PowerPoint. Do not turn in a pdf document.
Narration is required. Narration selection is found in the tools under slideshow. If that fails you search of it in the box named “Tell me what do you want to do?”.
The presentation must last four to six minutes. Points are deducted if it is shorter or longer.
Presentations are graded on attractiveness, but be careful not to overly complicate the presentation or the individual slides. I find simple best.
Text must be in a minimum of 18 point font and in a clear easy to read font. Make sure any background chosen does not make the font difficult to read.
Include pictures, graphs, and anything else that you think will aid your presentation. These inclusions must be chosen to increase the attractiveness of your presentations and to increase viewers understanding of the information in the presentations. Tables, graphs, or other inserted in formation must be easy to read and evaluate.
Do not add a video.
You will turn in separately an annotated bibliography for the term paper – but not specifically for this portion of the assignment. Include a short in text citation (Wright, 2011) for photos, drawings, graphs, or anything taken without major rewriting from a reference. Make sure the full reference is in your final paper references. How to do this is described in the instructions for references.
Only one quotation is allowed, all other writing must be yours.
Do not write in paragraphs, write in lists when possible.
STUDENT REVIEWS
Students will conduct a peer review of ten student presentations, but NOT their own presentation. Failure to make an individual specific comment about each presentation reviewed will result in a loss of points. You earn two points for each presentation reviewed. Each presentation must be ranked in comparison to the other presentations you review. Pick which ever presentations you wish to review. A summary sheet must be turned in with the ranked presentations listed.
Form to evaluate disease-funding presentations
The rubric for evaluating presentations is based on this form.
Name presenter __________________ Disease _______________________
Is the timing of presentations between four and seven minutes? Is the narration clear? Is the presentation attractive?
Is the information presented correct (are their facts correct)?
Is the information appropriate (does it further their argument)?
How well is the presentation organized?
Main question = should this disease receive funding? Why? How strong in the argument?
To answer this, you must compare the presentation to the presentations by other students in the class. You must write more than a short sentence here.
