Discussion:
Read the scenario below.
Jim and Janie Smith have two children – Kyle 15, Lizzie 12. Kyle is an honor student, but he has recently started to wear “goth” clothing and wants several tattoos and body piercings. Kyle and his father are constantly arguing. Jim wants to raise Kyle in the military type background that he came from, and Kyle thinks his father is trying to make him into a clone of himself.
Janie and Lizzie disagree about her chores, and Lizzie spends long hours on the internet. Janie was shy as a teen and she does not understand why her daughter wants so many friends and extra activities.
Janie remembers her parent’s marriage; and her mother never disagreed with her father and the home seemed very tranquil. She feels that her family is falling apart and is in a state of panic; and she has brought her family to you – the therapist- to address the situation.
Questions:
Identify the Six-Step Model of Crisis Intervention relating to this family. How would you utilize either the various family systems therapies or behavioral therapies to address some of the issues presented in the scenario above?
