The client, an experienced contractor specialised in building hospitals, wants to become a “Design and Build Company” specialising in designing and building modern hospitals incorporating innovative design features in response to specific requirements of the clinical briefs and the construction process. As such, the client has decided to form an in-house integrated design team. The client has limited experience of modern design management and has instructed you to produce a critical report advising on:
A list of integrated design team’s capabilities and skills required.
Available methodologies (and their benefits and limitations) to effectively manage, plan, monitor and control the activities at design and construction stage
Including but not limited to Critical Path Method, ADePT Methodology for planning and design, Earned Value Management, Value Engineering, Life Cycle Cost Analysis/Assessment (LCCA/LCA), etc.
How BIM (Building Information Model) principles can be incorporated and would provide support into design and construction management of such complex projects
A list of available software and technologies that can facilitate the above – with a brief and clear explanation of their capabilities and limitations (if any).
Guidelines
The report must be word processed.
All pages must be numbered for ease of cross reference.
If any additional assumption(s) is needed you should clearly state the assumption(s) and justify your assumption(s).
Communication must be clear
Use diagrams and sketches. They should be placed in appropriate place. A diagram or sketch says a thousand words. So use them.
All figures/illustrations/tables need to be numbered must have appropriate captions and their source must be cited.
Citations (references) in the main report and the list of references presented at the end of the report must be in line with the Harvard Referencing System
