Rousseau’s Confessions

Paper details

write a paper on Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s, The Confessions, ONLY Book I and Book II.

1. Here is the text. https://www.gutenberg.org/files/3913/3913-h/3913-h.htm (again, only need to read BOOK I and BOOK II)

3. Write two pages proving the thesis: “Although ‘Romantic’ was a derisive term created to mock those who believed in this whimsical notion of life, Rousseau decided to write on this sentimentality in The Confessions, where he detailed his own fallibility as a man comically and without fear, and he did this by representing himself faithfully in the language of psychology rather than the language of Christian religiosity. ”

4. If you need direction, there is more information on this page: https://philosophynow.org/issues/68/The_Full_Revelation_of_the_Self_Jean-Jacques_Rousseau_and_the_Birth_of_Deep_Autobiography under “Psychological Examination of Childhood Experience”

5. Please note, you need quotes to support your arguments. So please include 3-4 quotes over the course of the two pages.
