Discussion 04.1: Jeffrey Dahmer
Welcome to Discussion 04.1! Jeffrey Dahmer was a serial killer that was active from 1978-1991. He raped, murdered, dismembered and consumed his victims (boys and men). Dahmer was found to have borderline personality disorder and a psychotic disorder but was found to be sane and fit to stand trial. Dahmer is unique in that he was very candid about his past, his thoughts, and his pathway to becoming a serial killer. This week, we’ll look into profiling and the best ways to react to serial killers.. Address the following prompts:
• What is criminal profiling?
• What Psychiatric disorders was Dahmer suspected to have? (http://www.criminalprofiling.com/category/famous-serial-killers/jeffrey-dahmer/)
• We see unsolved murders frequently. What difficulty might occur in identifying serial killers (and further, having them confess to who are their victims were)?
• When asked why we identified the names of his victims, Jeffrey Dahmer replied, “To relieve the mind of their parents”. Can serial killers possess empathy? Why/Why not?
• Reply substantively to at least two posts
