Choose either Macbeth, Banquo, or Macduff and explain why they are the hero of the story. You should include at least one feature explaining how they are a tragic hero.
Choose one of the following topics:
1. Choose either Macbeth, Banquo, or Macduff and explain why they are the hero of the story. You should include at least one feature explaining how they are a tragic hero. While writing, consider what traits make this character a hero. What do they try to do for the greater good? Do they try to do the right thing? How do they seek to bring about their desired outcome through their actions?
2. Lady Macbeth is one of Shakespeare’s most powerful female characters. Analyze her character. (You can think about the significance of her experience, what she represents, her influence on her husband, her attraction to the supernatural, etc.)
3. The supernatural plays an important role in Macbeth. To what extent does it motivate Macbeth’s actions? Consider things like visions, prophesies, and supernatural figures.
4. Macbeth presents many themes for analysis. Choose one of the following themes – Guilt and Conscience, Ambition, Appearance vs. Reality, Good vs. Evil and Fate and Free Will – and discuss how it developed throughout the play.
Your essay should be about three pages long, size 12 font, five paragraphs, and include at least three quotes properly cited from the book and two quotes from a critical essay to support your claim (at least one per body paragraph). We will have time to work in this in class. There will be a rough draft and final draft for this assignment. Outlines are optional, but recommended. This assignment will be due the day of our unit test.
