Community Health Nurse Professional Nursing Plan

A documented Professional Development Plan (PDP) helps you conceptualize aspirations within your professional life. Professional development should be an ongoing process to ensure you are staying current—if not one step ahead—in the field of nursing and mission-critical competencies. Planning for continuous development must be anchored to your own personal mission, goals, objectives, and needs, as well as be tied to your work and career goals.

This assignment addresses one component of a PDP–identifying goals. Identify your short- and long-term professional goals and development needs will help you achieve those goals and meet those needs.

Instructions

1. Take time to consider what you want to accomplish in your career, both in the short-term (within 1-2 years) and the long-term (more than 2 years from now).

2. Develop at least 3 short-term goals and 3 long-term goals using the SMART goals worksheet.

3. Compose a paper, no more than 3 pages, to include the following:

A. Description/Summary of goals

B. Basic plan to achieve goals

C. Identification of barriers that may prevent you from achieving goals

D. Solutions to help overcome barriers

4. Submit the final paper along with the SMART goals worksheets, if used.

Organization and Writing

Observe rules of grammar, spelling, and punctuation and demonstrate a good writing style and flow as established by the APA Style Manual.

Before finalizing your work, you should:

Be sure to read the assignment description carefully (as displayed above)
Consult the Grading Rubric to make sure you have included everything necessary;
Use spelling and grammar check to decrease errors; and
Review APA formatting and citation information found online, in the APA manual, or elsewhere in the course.
Your writing should:

Follow the conventions of Standard American English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc.);
Be well ordered, logical, and unified, as well as original and insightful;
Display superior content, organization, style, and mechanics; and
Use APA 6th edition format for organization, style, and crediting sources including:
12-point, double-spaced, Times New Roman font
Title page
Use of in-text citations
Headings, as needed
Reference page, as needed
