Assessment 1 Guidance
Briefing paper (word limit 3000 words)
Assessment 1 is a briefing paper on the risk assessment and management of a specific communicable or non-communicable hazard. This can be a communicable health risk like tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, or non-communicable hazards like Asbestos exposure, breast cancer or type-2 diabetes.
The report should be split into five sections and should use these subheadings to guide the content.
1. Identification of a health risk in relation to a specific population. (10 marks)
2. Discussions of the determinants of the identified health risk. (10 marks)
3. Discussion of the risk-level in the population with evidence of the probability of the risk and the magnitude of likely impact from the event (20 marks).
4. Description of existing systems in relation to the risk (20 marks)
5. Development of a risk management plan using a theoretical framework applicable in risk management. The plan should include a critical discussion of how the risk will be handled (accepted, reduced or transferred) providing evidence of the outcome from similar applications in other settings. (30 marks)

The word count limit for this assignment is 3000 words, /- 10%. The word count must be adhered to. The submission deadline is end of week 5 Sunday by 11 pm (23:00
hours) VLE (UTC) time. If you miss the deadline, then USW rules on late submission/non-submission outlined below come into effect.
