Sustainability Assessment Task – Business Studies

Instructions
Notes: I am a Year 12 High School Student (Sydney, Australia). As part of my Business Studies Course I am attending Industry work experience one day per week. The Organisation I doing this in is called Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Sydney, but my experience has been just a limited overview of the institute looking at all areas of how the business is run.
TASK DESCRIPTION/INSTRUCTIONS:
Students are required to identify ONE sustainability problem within the industry and provide a cost effective solution to that problem. Topics could be: food waste, recycling, return and earn scheme, plastic waste.
(I would like to choose the “Return and Earn Scheme “in terms of Toner/Ink Cartridges from Photocopiers used in the Institute).
After identifying a sustainability problem students must prepare a 1-2 page formal business proposal. This is a practical industry level task and the final proposal must reflect professional business standards.
This Proposal should outline the following:
– Problem
– Solution
– Implementation strategy
– Cost
– Overall savings of implementation (both financial and where possible energy, CO2 and waste savings)
– Educational resources for both employer and employees e.g. recycling explanation posters.
– Additional supportive documents and statistics e.g. an Irish study found 82% of employees felt more committed to an organisation that had volunteer and sustainabilty opportunities.
Proposals will ideally INCLUDE graphs/pie charts of relevant data, photos and a cost analysis spreadsheet. Remember that modern and creative documents stand out more.
